The Learning Institute and Fisheries Administration (FiA) has been working for many years on action research project called “the Study on Women Roles Needs and Aspirations in Community Fisheries Management” in order to improve and justify the implementation of Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Strategy in Fisheries Sectors (GMPSFS). This study was supporting by the Heinrich Boll Foundation (HBF), Sida funded Wetlands Alliance (WAP), Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre (SEAFDEC), International Collective in Support of Fish-worker (ICSF), Oxfam GB, and International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
Given results from the study
explained that integration of gender perspective into fisheries management especially at the community level leads to better analysis of the need between women and men within the community, better and well manage the fisheries resources by using the women knowledge in resources collection, better solve the issue or problem in fisheries resource management at the local level, as well as provide the opportunity for women and men to share the benefits in an equitable way.
However, there is limited
information regarding the integration of gender perspective from various sectors in natural resource management including fishery, forestry, protected areas and land. Therefore, following questions should be considered to come up with a wide range of answers.
1. What are the
gender integration/mainstreaming in your internal organization and project implementation?
2. What are the challenges/lessons learned for this integration/mainstreaming?
