This is to announce the upcoming National Fishers Conference to review and discuss what has happened with the idea of Community(based) Fisheries Management in Cambodia since the reforms of 2000 in which a lot of previously privately controlled fishing areas were opened up for community management. The CF Law has been enacted yet of the almost 500 CFs now in operation only 167 have been formally (legal) registered. There needs to be a national level discussion on the effectiveness of the CF law…See More

Fisher's Livelihoods, the Flooded Forest and the Tonle Sap- A National Workshop

A critical concern today for Cambodia is the rapid loss of the flooded forest around the Tonle Sap. This forest is a crucial environment for sustaining the valuable fisheries for the Tonle sap and Mekong River ecosystems. Millions of people depend on these fisheries which grow and develop among the flooded forests of the Tonle Sap. Many lake fishing communities depend on these forests for fish and other products for their food and livelihood support. These forest are being lost through many…See More

Upcoming FACT Events:

Just to let members know FACT will be co-chairing a Regional Workshop on Law and Family Fishing in The Mekong River on October 2 in Kratie, this is part of a tentative/planned 3 part workshop series (another in Siem Reap/Tonle Sap and a third in the Coastal Zone) leading up to a National Workshop on the Impacts of Illegal Fishing on Fishing Communities. If anyone would like to participate or has some views/ideas on these topics I would love to hear them. It is really important now to build upon some of the openness and good will that the Fisheries Admin and others are showing to really having a hard look at what can really be done to build better fisher livelihoods.

Dear again,

I do not know much of who running the CBET projects along the cardamom mtn. But for Chipat- run by Wildlife Alliance. I have been there two years ago with my class mates, tourism students and lecturers. It is running well right now and tourism department's students of my university are working in that project as well.

Mostly, CBET projects in Cambodia are run and initiated by NGOs or goverment. Those NGOs responsible for facilitating and funding the projects. There is no CBET project initiatived by local people yet as I know. How about Chambok, CBET site? Have u been there? It is running by local people with a facilitation from Mlup Baitong, but this NGO will resign soon. CBET at Bongteay Cham, Oddar Meanchey is also an interested place. I saw a broacher of that place, but haven't been yet. I will find more if u want.

Best wishes,

Dear Ron!

Nice to see ur interest and comment on my wall n welcome u to PP- Cambodia.
I am interested in tourism development in Cambodia and i am seeking a job related to it as I am freshly graduated in Tourism Management.

You're right about the CBET development along the cadarmon mountain. It is really potential and important for Cambodia. The problem along the Mekong river also the hot and interested issue for me.

Hi Ron, welcome u Cambodia. thanks for eyeing my photo. I also wait to see ur photo. Anyway, i can say i know you by chance. I really want to see that publication.
Well, ur work look very interesting n helpful. It will be the crucial hint to improve people livelihoods around Tonle Sap. To me, I'm only a volunteer for CBNRMLI. I've just graduated in economic development. I have a little understanding about Tonle Sap. However, some of my friends and coworkers work related to fisheries and Tonle Sap lake, so I will ask them to gather information for u. Here, i'm responsible to help my team to create the website and book which provide the contact list of natural resource management services providers over Cambodia.
Personally, i love working related to research, especially which is related to how to improve livelihood. i will try my best to help u; therefore, i will learn something from u about how to do research. Could u share it with me?
Wish u enjoy ur holiday during our pchumben day, too.

Was anyone involved in the the late July 2009 exchange visiti in Strung Treng with the Lao delegation on the fish conservation in deep pools in the Mekong and XeKong rivers? Especially anyone from CEPA. I am looking for contacts to have a reverse trip with Cambodians to see the Lao community-based fish conservation program in action...they have done some pretty amazing things and I know the Cambodians could benefit from some of this....Let know what you think?
