Learning Institute: Call for Student Research Proposal

30 November 2010: The Learning Institute is calling for proposals from students, researchers and individuals to apply for three types of research grants. The Learning Institute is a non-profit Cambodian organization working with a wide range of civil society, public and private sector to contribute more effectively to the sustainable management and fair use of natural resources for the benefit of rural people. As a center for participatory and innovative learning, the Learning Institute works towards its mission through action research, facilitating collaborative arrangements, information sharing and capacity development at local, sub-national, national and regional levels.

Objective
Being one of many activities of supporting a new generation of researchers, the research grants aim to build research knowledge and skills of young researchers so that they can have a better understanding on gender competence, how to become a good researcher and produce a good quality of research output. The grant also aims to stimulate networking among students and researchers at academic institutions and research institutions.

Priority Area for Funding

The theme of research proposals must fall within the following priority areas of the Learning Institute: (i) Livelihoods, equity and food security; (ii) community based adaptive management and climate change; (iii) local planning processes, decentralization and governance.

Grant Awarded Information: six grants are awarded for this year including:
  • 2 for Bachelor thesis research ($550 per grant)
  • 2 for Master thesis research ($750 per grant)
  • 2 for individual and/or group research ($750 per grant). This grant should not longer than 6 months period.
Eligibility: Grants are open to Cambodian students who are pursing Bachelor and/or Master Degree in and outside Cambodia.
  • Grant for Bachelor thesis research: Students who are at the fourth year of their Bachelor study and need to fulfill thesis writing requirement
  • Grant for Master thesis research: Students who are at the second year of their Master study in and outside Cambodia and need to fulfill thesis writing requirement
  • Grant for individual and/or group research: Student who are at the second or third year of their Bachelor study and want to build and enhance the research skills. This grant not for thesis research
  • Give more focus on gender oriented in research design and methodology
  • Women and indigenous students are highly encouraged.
Submission Instruction
Interested applicants should submit their research proposal in English language by email to info@learninginstitute.org before 30 November 2010 by noon. The research proposal should contain a title, a concise description of the research objectives, methodology, workplan and expected outcomes. The applicants should also attach letter of certification from their university. Female and indigenous student is highly encouraged to apply.
